Master of Nursing Practice

Admission criteria for this program are consistent with the criteria outlined by the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council (ANMC) (2009) standards for postgraduate courses. They are designed to prepare students for authorisation as a nurse practitioner with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia, and are consistent with those outlined by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation guidelines.

Applicants must meet the minimum requirements below to be eligible for entry into the 80-unit Masters degree:

  • Bachelor of Nursing (equivalent to an AQF Level 7); AND
  • hold a current practicing certificate with AHPRA for nursing; AND
  • a minimum of 5 years full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience as a registered nurse; AND
  • a minimum of 3 years full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience in speciality nursing; AND
  • a minimum of 1 year full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience at an advanced practice level in a specialist area of nursing as recognised by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australiawww.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au, AND
  • nomination of 2 Clinical Supervisors to be approved by the Program Convenor
  • confirmed workplace support to complete all professional experience requirements of the course, including a minimum of 658 hours of embedded clinical practice in a specialist area of nursing. A letter of support from your Director of Nursing and Head of Department is required.

    NOTE: you are also required to provide corroborating evidence of how all professional experience requirements, including role development support, will be met; AND

  • be an active member of a professional nursing organisation, eg Royal College of Nursing Australia, College of Emergency Nursing, College of Mental Health Nurses etc. and/or your (the applicant's) speciality nursing organisation; AND
  • demonstrated contribution to the ongoing development of the profession; AND
  • have reliable access to a computer with high-speed broadband or wireless access to the internet for a minimum of 20 hours per week.
